Preventing Boils
from:The bacteria that cause boils are present throughout the environment, so prevention
is often difficult.
Help prevent boils by following these guidelines:
Stay as healthy as possible
Eat a healthy diet. Choose whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables and small amounts of lean protein.
Cleanse skin properly with soap and water
Apply an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment
Take showers rather than tub baths
Clean and treat minor skin wounds
Consider using antiseptic soaps and shower gels
Carefully wash bed linen, clothes, and towels of a family member who is infected
with boils
Do not share towels, washcloths, or facial cosmetics with others
Cut down on greasy or fatty foods and snacks
Avoid constricting clothing. Tight clothes may be stylish, but make sure they don't
chafe your skin.
At the earliest sign of irritation or a bump at a hair follicle, use warm compresses to open up the blocked pore and drain any early infection
